The ANC Youth League elective conference in KwaZulu-Natal, which was scheduled to take place over the weekend in Durban, is facing the possibility of being postponed again due to unresolved issues. As of Sunday evening, the conference had yet to commence, raising concerns about the ability to elect a new leadership.
According to reports, the conference was supposed to start at 8 am on Sunday, but the leadership spent the entire day in a meeting attempting to resolve delegate credential issues. A delegate from the south coast of the province revealed that one of the causes of the delay was the absence of some delegates from the Tolomane Mnyauza region on the south coast, whose names were not on the list of delegates.
“We had a problem with the list of delegates from the south coast as some of the comrades did not appear on the list, however, we have sorted that out now,” said the delegate. The prolonged discussions around delegate credentials have hindered the commencement of the conference.
The unresolved issues surrounding delegate credentials have cast doubts on whether the ANC Youth League will be able to proceed with electing new leadership as originally planned. As of Sunday afternoon, the conference had still not begun, despite an announcement from the league that it would commence at 3:30 pm. However, by 4 pm, the hall remained empty, and delegates were waiting to be called in.
In a statement released by the league, it was mentioned that the conference would be opened by the league’s national secretary-general, Mntuwoxolo Ngudle. However, with time ticking away and no sign of the conference starting, concerns over the successful conclusion of the event have been raised.
Given the delays and unresolved issues plaguing the ANC Youth League elective conference in KwaZulu-Natal, there is a looming possibility of the event being postponed once again. The failure to kick off the conference as scheduled, coupled with ongoing challenges related to delegate credentials, has created a cloud of uncertainty over the successful election of a new leadership.
The league had initially aimed to conclude the conference on Sunday, but with the day drawing to a close and no progress in sight, the likelihood of a postponement is becoming increasingly real. Without the ability to resolve the delegate credential issues promptly, the ANC Youth League may find itself in a difficult position to proceed with the election process.
In conclusion, the ANC Youth League elective conference in KwaZulu-Natal is facing the prospect of being postponed due to unresolved problems, particularly regarding delegate credentials. The delays in commencing the conference and doubts over electing a new leadership have raised concerns about the feasibility of proceeding with the event as planned. Only time will tell whether the league can overcome these obstacles and successfully conclude its elective conference.
